measuring the endless house:

A Vision of Naturalistic Living

Project Type: Academic Research

Location: Ithaca, NY

Year: 2012

Frederick Kiesler's Endless House was a visionary project seeking to bring its occupants closer to nature. All spaces are contained in a single continuous skin; sunlight and shadows mark passing time; natural pools, fire pits and small plant groves bring the outdoors in. This study of Kiesler's unbuilt project examines the tectonic structure of the Endless House, drawing lessons for future work. The research was funded by Cornell University and the Austrian Frederick and Lilian Kiesler Foundation, and received Cornell University's award for outstanding thesis.
