SEEDLING SUKKAH:
An Urban Sanctuary
Project Type: Open Competition
Location: Detroit, MI
Year: 2018
The Seedling Sukkah is a pop-up pavilion in Downtown Detroit's Capitol Park. The project offers space for communion with the natural elements within a busting city center. It is built entirely of locally fabricated, laser-cut plywood parts and draws upon natural patterns to create a unique urban landmark. In keeping with the Rabbincal law that guides Sukkah construction, it is an open-air structure that offers shade during the day and a view of the stars at night. This project was a winner of Detroit's largest international design competition and was built as part of Detroit Month of Design, 2018.
